WATERFORD GREENWAY
The Waterford Greenway is a captivating walking and cycling route that has been established on the former Waterford to Dungarvan Railway line. This historic railway, which dates back to the 1870s, fell into disuse in the 1960s, only to be transformed into a picturesque trail that now offers a unique journey through time.
As you explore the Greenway, you will traverse through significant periods of history, including Viking and Norman sites as well as locations tied to the War of Independence. The route showcases a blend of stunning civil engineering marvels, such as towering viaducts, elegantly curved structures, tunnels, and bridges — including a specially designed double-level bridge for cows. In addition to this architectural splendor, you will be treated to breathtaking natural scenery, including the tranquil meanderings of a riverbank, panoramic mountain views, and the strikingly beautiful coastline of Waterford.
It’s a truly immersive experience that seamlessly combines history, engineering, and nature for all to enjoy.

“It was one of those happy-go-lucky days cycling on the Greenway stretching far when the least expected thing in the least expected moment happened: a resting bike got a puncture! Being ill-equipped with only a basic repair kit and no tube, we were lucky we were rescued from the predicament of walking back home by Wild Rover. A quick and efficient fix saved our day and we could cycle away!”
“Declan joined us on our “first fundraising cycle” for Waterford Educate Together National School on Saturday the 23rd. His invaluable experience paired with his easy going demeanor made for an enjoyable no stress cycling event. I highly recommend him and hope he will join us in future events.”
“Declan is a real gent, and just the man to get you back rolling if you get a mechanical while biking the Greenway. Stick the number in your phone – who knows when you’d need it ;-)”
